For us it is crystal clear - algae are the future. With algae we can feed and cure more people (and animals) than by any other means. This is not news, however, the bottleneck to achieve such goals has always been to process algae cost efficiently. We are working on it! Our goal is to make algae processing cost effectively. We employ a combination of extraction and fractionation techniques that are non-toxic, faster and yield high quality compounds from algae.

We have the know-how to extract algae based compounds like polyunsaturated fatty acids, e.g. Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, antioxidants, nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals which are essential for human health. Encapsulating an ingredient means placing a protective layer around ingredient particles or components. Our CO₂ encapsulation process uses close to ambient temperatures and is an oxygen-free, closed cycle process. Due to the mild conditions, sensitive ingredients can be encapsulated in a highly controlled environment.  Examples of our products are:

ESCENTA OMEGA - CREATING HEALTHY FOOD & BEVERAGES

Adding nutritional value to food in the form of specialty oils give products an important competitive edge. While highly beneficial, adding these nutrients comes with numerous challenges. They are vulnerable to degradation due to oxygen, light and temperature, are often incompatible with other ingredients or have a bad flavor. FeyeCon developed the ESCENTA OMEGA concept that tackles these issues. ESCENTA OMEGA stabilizes sensitive oils in a fine powder, making it easy to add them to food and beverages. The nutritional value has been preserved, the oil has good stability and the taste is not compromised. ESCENTA OMEGA is the solution to create delicious and healthy food. 

PROTECTING ANTI-OXIDANTS - FOR EFFECTIVE COSMETICS 

FeyeCon not only extracts anti-oxidants from natural resources, but also encapsulates them. Hereby we ensure the active ingredient is released only after reaching its intended destination. For cosmetics we have created encapsulates that will break at body temperature. At lower temperatures the encapsulate is stable, protecting the active ingredient from degradation. With our knowledge and expertise we create 100% natural cosmetic products with highly effective anti-oxidants.

FeyeCon can transform many different compounds into micron-sized (and sub-micron) particles. Thanks to our versatile CO₂ technology we are able to create particle sizes that fit specific needs. Examples of our products are:

TEXTURING AGENT - INSTATEX, STABILIZING SPREADS AND SUSPENSIONS

In food applications, fats and waxes are excellent options for stabilizers, because they are easily digested, not soluble in water and inexpensive. However, micronizing such ductile materials is usually cumbersome and energy intensive. To overcome these issues, FeyeCon developed InstaTex powders with a one-step micronization process, which are a perfect and easy texturing agent for margarines, spreads, dressings and creams. 

EASY FORMULATING - IMPROVED MEDICINE ADMINISTRATION 

FeyeCon produces micro and nano-sized particles from Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) to improve formulation and create alternative routes of administration. Both improve patient comfort and bioavailability of an API. Micronizing particles into specific drug polymorphisms can also lead to shelf-life enhancement of a final formulation. By changing the process conditions and nozzle, the size and morphology of the powder can be varied to meet specific requirements. Using carbon dioxide as an alternative for organic solvents provides greener processing under mild conditions.

The powders are stable, free-flowing and easily dispersed into a final application mixture. Furthermore, formulation is simplified and energy efficient, thanks to the low temperature mixing. The micronized particles have an increased surface area, giving bulk to a product and reducing the amount of raw materials needed while retaining the same texture. During micronization, active ingredients can be added simultaneously. Adding functionality and structure in a single-step process. The simplified formulation and processing, coupled with lower energy consumption lead to significant cost-savings.

The Tispa Medical Processor is the first ever tissue processing machine based on supercritical CO₂ .
