Technology Transfer Agreement with MBC
FeyeCon Carbon Dioxide Technologies has a licensing and technology transfer agreement with Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation Sdn Bhd (MBC).
MBC is the lead agency in developing the biotechnology industry in Malaysia. The Malaysian National Biotechnology Policy envisions that biotechnology will be a new economic engine for Malaysia, enhancing the nation’s prosperity and well-being.
To succeed, the Policy aims to build a conducive environment for R&D and industry development whilst leveraging on the country’s existing areas of strength. The Policy is divided into three main phases; Phase I (2005-2010), Phase II (2010-2015), and Phase III (2016-2020). Phase I will focus on capacity building and the establishment of the Malaysian Biotech Corporation (MBC), the establishment of advisory and implementation councils, the education and training of knowledge workers, and the development of a legal and intellectual property (IP) framework. Phase II will emphasize on the business aspects, such as developing expertise in drug discovery and the development based on natural resources, new product development, and technology acquisition and licensing. Phase III will be based on the results achieved in the first two phases and bringing local biotech companies to international status.
As part of the Policy, MBC signed an agreement with FeyeCon Carbon Dioxide Technologies in order to acquire technologies to enhance the „natural product‟sector which includes the herbal-based products. MBC acquired hardware from FeyeCon including a supercritical CO2 extraction unit, a particle formation unit and a fractionation unit. Furthermore, MBC acquired the right to use specific FeyeCon technology in the Asian region and sub-license it third parties in the region, bolstering Malaysia’s goal of becoming a market leader in biotechnology industry by 2025.
The University Putra Malaysia (UPM), faculty of Food Science and Technology was appointed as the custodian of the hardware. The hardware is presently commissioned by FeyeCon at the newly founded "Supercritical Fluid Centre” on the UPM premises.
During the BioMalaysia 2010 exhibition in Kuala Lumpur in November 2010, The deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia officially opened the ‘’Supercritical Fluid Centre”. Furthermore, he visisted the Holland Pavilion with FeyeCon booth present at the exhibition.
