BMM DESIRE – A SMART APPROACH TO PREVENT KIDNEY DAMAGE

The kidneys are of vital importants for the human body. They help us to remove waste products from our blood, to recover water and important salts, and to regulate our blood pressure. If the kidneys incur damage, they can no longer do their job which causes life-threatening situations. In order to survive, the patient ultimately relies on hemodialysis or, if there are no other options, kidney transplantation. These interventions are expensive and very burdensome for the patient; a ‘normal’ life is virtually impossible. Kidney diseases usually result from high blood pressure or cardiovascular problems and are therefore on the rise.

FeyeCon is participating in the BMM Desire research project to develop smart polymers that contain medicines for the kidneys. For example, this curing material could be introduced under the peri-renal capsule. It does not have to find its way through the body itself and can immediately penetrate into the inflamed kidney tissue and do its job there. If it would also succeed in gradually releasing these medicines in the kidney tissue in the right dosages, we would have an extremely efficient therapy. It is expected that this new polymer could put an end to the disease at an early stage, thereby preventing the development of chronic kidney failure and the need for hemodialysis and kidney transplantation. Our CO₂ encapsulation process uses close to ambient temperatures and is an oxygen-free, closed cycle process. Due to the mild conditions, sensitive ingredients can be encapsulated in a highly controlled environment.  Examples of our products are:

ESCENTA OMEGA - CREATING HEALTHY FOOD & BEVERAGES

Adding nutritional value to food in the form of specialty oils give products an important competitive edge. While highly beneficial, adding these nutrients comes with numerous challenges. They are vulnerable to degradation due to oxygen, light and temperature, are often incompatible with other ingredients or have a bad flavor. FeyeCon developed the ESCENTA OMEGA concept that tackles these issues. ESCENTA OMEGA stabilizes sensitive oils in a fine powder, making it easy to add them to food and beverages. The nutritional value has been preserved, the oil has good stability and the taste is not compromised. ESCENTA OMEGA is the solution to create delicious and healthy food. 

PROTECTING ANTI-OXIDANTS - FOR EFFECTIVE COSMETICS 

FeyeCon not only extracts anti-oxidants from natural resources, but also encapsulates them. Hereby we ensure the active ingredient is released only after reaching its intended destination. For cosmetics we have created encapsulates that will break at body temperature. At lower temperatures the encapsulate is stable, protecting the active ingredient from degradation. With our knowledge and expertise we create 100% natural cosmetic products with highly effective anti-oxidants. 

ENCAPSULATED MEDICINE - IMPROVED FORMULATION 

Encapsulation is used by FeyeCon to produce stabilized compounds and protect them from oxygen, daylight, heat and other stress factors that impair ingredient functionality. Encapsulation also prevents unwanted reactions with other ingredients and masks unpleasant taste and smell. In addition, encapsulation is applied to produce powders with controlled release of active ingredients, such as prolonged and/or triggered delivery, leading to optimal bioavailability. Micronized particles are encapsulated with different coating materials depending on the route of administration.
