WineSense - getting the most from grapes

Europe is the world largest producer of wine and grapes (60%) and forms an important sector for the European Economy. When producing wine, grape-must is a bi-product that is currently not used to its full potential. It contains active compounds that can be used to formulate pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic products. These compounds contain elements that are very beneficial for people’s health and wellbeing.

The WineSense project aims to improve the isolation of the main active compounds present in grapes (polyphenols) and to develop suitable formulations for pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetics applications.  The project will focus on Solvent Free Microwave Extraction (SMFE), Microwave Assisted Extraction (MAE), and emulsion-templating techniques combining high pressure and anti-solvent effects. The project will also investigate the potential to prepare these products on a commercial scale. Polyphenols can be incorporated in cosmetics, food or pharmaceutical products, and form an interesting market opportunity for wine producers.

For the WineSense project, FeyeCon will lead the activities associated with technical feasibility, market studies, economics and sustainability of the processes and products developed in the project. This includes demonstrating the scale-up of the extraction and formulation processes, while ensuring that the product quality is maintained. Upon evaluating the scalability of the processes, the costs associated with implementing them on an industrial scale will also be determined. Finally, market research will be performed to evaluate the commercial potential of the processes, as well as identifying potential market entry points for the products developed during the course of the project.

ESCENTA OMEGA - CREATING HEALTHY FOOD & BEVERAGES

Adding nutritional value to food in the form of specialty oils give products an important competitive edge. While highly beneficial, adding these nutrients comes with numerous challenges. They are vulnerable to degradation due to oxygen, light and temperature, are often incompatible with other ingredients or have a bad flavor. FeyeCon developed the ESCENTA OMEGA concept that tackles these issues. ESCENTA OMEGA stabilizes sensitive oils in a fine powder, making it easy to add them to food and beverages. The nutritional value has been preserved, the oil has good stability and the taste is not compromised. ESCENTA OMEGA is the solution to create delicious and healthy food. 

PROTECTING ANTI-OXIDANTS - FOR EFFECTIVE COSMETICS 

FeyeCon not only extracts anti-oxidants from natural resources, but also encapsulates them. Hereby we ensure the active ingredient is released only after reaching its intended destination. For cosmetics we have created encapsulates that will break at body temperature. At lower temperatures the encapsulate is stable, protecting the active ingredient from degradation. With our knowledge and expertise we create 100% natural cosmetic products with highly effective anti-oxidants.

Final products do not contain residual solvents and product shelf life is considerably enhanced, as extracts are free of microbial contamination. Our processes take place at low temperatures which makes it suitable for the isolation of temperature sensitive compounds. 

Galantamine - Medicine from Flower Bulbs 

Quality and purity form the basis of our technology philosophy. We offer extraction processes that ensure the best quality, the highest purity and are ready to be used as an API in the pharmaceutical pipeline. We have the know-how to extract Galantamine-HBr out of narcissus bulbs, a natural and inexpensive resource. Galantamine-HBr is a reversible acetyl cholinesterase (ACE) inhibitor and is currently used for the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease. Our process for Galantamine extraction meets the requirements stipulated by European, British and U.S. Pharmacopeias.

Anti-aging Astaxanthine - 100% Natural Cosmetics

One of these ingredients is Astaxanthine, a natural anti-oxidant that protects our skin from external stress. It prevents damage to the cell structure that causes wrinkles, fine lines and pigmentation. FeyeCon extracts this ingredient from algae, a biological resource naturally rich with the anti-oxidant.
